Red Bull Music Academy is releasing a series of short films and to kick it off here’s a quick history lesson on NYC’s most celebrated indie record label: the “too old to be new, too new to be classic” DFA Records. It features interviews with DFA founders James Murphy and Jonathan Galkin as well as much of DFA roster including LCD Soundsystem, The Rapture, Holy Ghost!, Yacht, Juan MacLean and more. The short was directed by Max Joseph.

Happy Monday everyone! We just uncovered this timeless gem in our interweb meanderings. A very rare video from the 1970`s showing the skateboard scene in Dogtown USA. You can watch the full length documentary here. It is amazing how well this piece holds up in taking a closer look at coastal youth culture from an outsiders perspective. It is also very interesting to see these guys under the lens like a cultural anthropology study. Good stuff. Enjoy!

And during that time, he’s crossed paths with countless individuals who share a love for surfing and a passion for the arts. In his new series called Through The Lens, we meet these individuals and follow Rob as he re-connects with the people who’ve inspired him along the way. This first episode features Jay Nelson.

The second annual San Diego Surf Film Festival will run for 5 days, show 14 features and 29 shorts. There will also be panels with surf legends & filmmakers, shaping demos, live music, art, and all sorts of other goodies. The festival will run May 8th – 12th at Bird’s Surf Shed. More info here:
